4-H & AG
4-H is a free organization for youth between the ages of 5 to 19 who enjoy “learning by doing.”
Youth can take part in many programs, clubs, activities, and solo projects such as presentations, raising an animal, starting a club, starting a Business, camping, and many others.
Durham County 4-H also offers agricultural based programs and clubs. These programs and clubs are:
- Soil Solutions,
- Project Learning Tree,
- 4-H Poultry Club,
- 4-H Livestock,
- and 4 Leaf Clovers 4-H Club.
Project Learning Tree: In partnership with Triangle Land Conservancy and the Forestry Department, we utilize PLT to teach environmental conservation to groups of youth at nature sites, Youth will utilize cross-disciplinary approaches to learn environmental science in outdoor settings.
4-H Poultry Club: Holds meetings on the Northern part of Durham. They work on poultry projects, gardening, and cooking among other things. The age range of this group in 5-16 years of age. The club meets on the 3rd Friday of the month from 6-7:30 pm.
4 Leaf Clovers 4-H Club: Meets on the East side of Durham. They are a new club and will work on poultry projects, gardening, animal studies and more. The age range of this club is 12-16 years of age. This is a home-school club and the meetings are on Thursdays from 2-4pm.
4-H Livestock Showing Club: This is not a formal club, however, we can connect youth to resources and specialists who can help them to sharpen their skills for livestock projects and showing competitions.
