HORTICULTURE & SMALL FARMS
Horticulture
The Horticulture program provides research-based gardening information to the public-both consumers and agriculture professionals-such as educational workshops, soil testing, pest identification, professional pesticide certification, and support for farmers from business plans to growing crops. Master Gardener and Extension Gardener programs educate consumers on plant care, landscaping, and other concerns through the Extension Masters Gardener Office, workshops, classes, and community events. Volunteers receive training in horticulture and complete volunteer service and continuing education requirements.

Small Farms
Cooperative Extension supports farmers and farms, big and small. There are more than 250 farms in Durham County covering around 21,000 acres, The Small Farms program provides the latest industry information and current research-based educational programs to the farmers, limited resource audiences, ranchers, community groups, and youth groups in Durham.
